2/22/25 - cookin'

I am so so so delighted to report my ginger bug is alive and well. I was scared but it's all bubbly and yeasty now! yay! Now that it's been almost a week and it's been bubbling fiercely for a few days, I tried making a batch of soda yesterday. There are so many recipes online and they all say the same thing, which is to heat up some water, sugar, and ginger in a pot, put it in a bottle of some kind, add some ginger bug, and let it sit for a few more days. So hopefully that mixture will start to carbonate itself.

Yesterday I also tried sauteeing spinach. I feel like I need to eat more vegetables since right now I kind of only eat asparagus and brussel sprouts, so this is a bit of experimentation. I liked the spinach, and it was easy to make, but I put too much lemon juice on it so it tasted mostly like lemon.

In other important news, I created a page on this site for book reviews, which I want to start doing. I'm pretty happy with a lot of the stuff on here so far, considering I started with literally 0 html knowledge. My plan for tonight is to drink martinis and play Oblivion on my slow shitty computer. And maybe work on this site some more.

what's uppp

This page is definitely gonna be changed up style-wise as soon as I figure out what I want it to look like but until then woooo here is my blog page. This is the main reason I actually started creating this website but then I got so caught up on all the fun little design things I can do that I didn't actually start working on this page until now. Pretty exciting. Not exactly sure how I'm going to use this because I don't want to be blogging like every day, maybe I'll try writing something weekly. I must admit that I've mostly been working on this site during my down time at work but currently I have quite a bit of it..

Yesterday I tried to start a culture to make ginger beer from (sometimes called a "ginger bug" - cute). I fear it might not work right. You're supposed to strain the water to make sure nothing in it will kill the bacteria but I couldn't find a water filter last time I went to the store so tried it without just to see. The water here isn't great. But it hasn't even been a full day yet, so I might just be being pessimistic. I have to keep feeding it for a little while.
